Eggplants Don’t Lie
Dear Alex,
Just a random thought without a quote today.
My daughter loves an eyeshadow in eggplant shimmers. She tries it on me, her fingers smudging color and memories in my dreams. I will miss her when she leaves home for college in August.
Eggplants Don’t Lie
In violet coat
the eggplant slips
rain and rumors past
hardy club of a kind
at the rim of Spring
feeding the hungry and blind.
On wok and clock
eggplants don’t lie
their stain stings the eye
astringent dreams
fibers to fingers
braiding lives.
Yours, Kate
