Questions

Dear Kate,

This morning's questions are for Christians, or anyone who claims to hold in Jesus a vision of human togetherness and flourishing, the mystery of God's purpose for the unity of all things.

We read in the news today, of what happened last night: "Beheaded statue of Egerton Ryerson, toppled Sunday in Toronto, won't be replaced."

My questions are: What is the implication of defacing a human being, any human being, especially those we believe deserve defacing (actually beheading in this case), if all human beings are made in the image of God?  Are we going to speak to this world such implication?  And, as Christians, if we believe the action carried out last night was justified, then how was it so without compromising the vision of human togetherness, let alone flourishing together?  Are there certain elements in Creation, certain sort of creatures, that, in our opinion, should be excluded from eternal communion with God?

Yours, Alex
